Port Revel

Port Revel is a 4 hectare artificial lake near Grenoble, France.

Port Revel is where ship masters and officers of the merchant marine go for training in ship handling in difficult circumstances.

The model ships, about the size of large canoe, are mimic of real ships. I say mimic because the ships are not only scale in size but in behavior as well. In fact, the lake was chosen because the surrounding landscape and forest allowed the scaling of the wind. A rather nice attention to detail.

My interest was piqued while reading John McPhee's "Uncommon Carriers".
