Presidents Versus Chiefs

Time was when Corporations conferred the title of 'Presidents' to their managers. President and various iterations of Vice-Presidents: SVP, AVP, VP-Finance, VP-Sales, VP-Miscellaneous...

I have wondered, while mindlessly watching Bloomberg channel, if the 'Chiefs' had taken over. Chief-Executive-Officer (CEO), Chief-Operating-Officer (COO), Chief-Financial-Officer (CFO), Chief-Technology-Officer (CTO), misChief-Officer (JOKER)...

When will Americans be voting for a Chief Executive Officer of the United States (CEOUS) instead of a President of the United States (POTUS, which admittedly, is sounds much more amusing)?

And why not? Americans have been hailing to their Chief with 'Hail to the Chief' since it was first played in 1828.
